Default samsum, turkey

This is a long shot but does anyone have any info on Samsun on the North coast of Turkey. Possible opening for me but need to know if it is ok for family.
Tried internet but you don't really get the info you usually get on here.

Regards

Billy

I just now ran across your post here. I have many Turkish friends, I can ask if they are familiar with Samsun. Can you explain more what you mean by "ok for family"? What are your main concerns?

I wish you had seen this thread earlier. I ended up saying no to the job. Never mind. Saying that any info now on this place would be helpful. You never know it may come up again in the future.
I was talking about schools etc. Is english spoken widely in Northern Turkey? Anything to do? There was not that much on the net regarding Samsun.
Thanks.

Hi Billy,

I heard back from my Turkish friend, here's what she said about Samsun:

Samsun is right next to my hometown. It is on the Black Sea coast, a beautiful city as all Black Sea coast cities. And it is the most developed one in the area, so I am sure your friend will not have much difficulty in adapting to the city. I can't say how much English is spoken there because I never had the need to test it But I know the city is very lively and active in cultural activities. There are private schools where the education tool is English. So, his employers will help in finding a school for his children I think, because that is usually what happens when foreign employees are hired at universities. He can check wikipedia for more information about the city: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsun
