Saying ello

Hi all
I thought I had been a lurker on this site for far too long so just saying hello and introducing me and mine.
Looking to move to Canada within the next 18 months hopefully....My other half is a trucker (obviously
)....and I am the better looking half!!
OH has been a trucker for years....12 years driving with the Army and 7 years in civvy street.
We are looking to move to Alberta with OH moving out 3-4 months before me & kids to get settled etc. We have 2 school age sproglets who will be coming with us so any info anyone wants to give is appreciated, whether it be about jobs, schools etc . Have to say though, I am on this site and reading the truckers blogs most days so I have been researching alot (I need to get a life me thinks!)
Anyway, thats us. OH will hardly be on here to post as I make him stay out 5 nights a week driving.......well a girl likes to starfish in bed!!!

Was gonna say can't you squeeze a little un in but OH has a right truckers gut on him so maybe not so little!
(note to self: Don't let OH read that or I'll be sleeping in the shed!
)Have been researching Lethbridge after reading 'he who cannot be named' blog and reading up on opinions from other members on here who live there....Don't really want a big city life as I am a country bumpkin from North Wales so not too keen on Calgary and Edmonton but I need to research the surrounding areas as I'm sure there is quite a few. Been getting quite a bit of info from Wikipedia about the different areas but we are planning on a recce trip as our honeymoon (once I actually get off here and organise the wedding!)....just got to palm the kids off on my mum first.

Ahhh gonna join the Big Red Team then ? At least you wont have the problem some married couples have ie "familiarity breeds contempt
" !

Can't say I'm a big lover of Lethbridge but most people love it there (its always blowing a gale when I go
)
Hope you like snow and sub zero temperatures ?
Only kidding at least we get long hot summers

OH and I can't live in each others pocket.....is always a p***ing contest to see who is boss in the house (n.b. I can p** wayyyyyyyyy further!!
) Like I said, OH was an Army boy so he is used to be away for long periods of time and I'm an ex Navy wife (well someone has to be) so I'm used to doing my own thing and being independant. Only thing OH would have to do is make me 2 weeks worth of food to freeze coz I don't cook....role reversal in this house, he cooks, I do the DIY!!
What didn't you like about Lethbridge? OH is more used to cold temps than I am as he spent time in Germany and the Balkans but I'm only used to the UK winters so I would have to adjust, however I am a winter baby and it is my fave season (wearing trousers = not having to shave legs!!!
)
Obviously he looking at H&R but I'm trying to find info on the sites that Gremmie posted for other companies in the area that go down the PNP route.

You got to remember when I go to Lethbridge I usually travel through on H3 and see all the industrial parts and railway lines I don't go down into the very nice little housing developments or the shopping malls. I sometimes deliver there and it seems OK, the people are friendly enough as they are all over Western Canada. So I'm not really qualified enough to give an accurate opinion of the place, You need to check it out for yourself. Don't think you will be short on schools shops etc. But its not close enough to the mountains for me.
Also it always the ex military guys that make a better go of it out here, thats one thing I've noticed in the 16 months I have been here.
So how do you cook when OH is away for 5 nights ?

OH cooks meals, freezes them and runs through whats what the night before he goes off to work......then I reheat em in the microwave!
....I can cook, I just choose not too. We are an odd couple and our families always laugh at us because OH does the food shopping because I just buy crap.... and he can't bang a nail in and I can do almost everything to do with the DIY....Guess that's why we suit each other
We definately do not want to live somewhere too industrial tbh....just want a bit more of a quiet life without being too isolated. We live in a village which is quiet enough but we are only 20 mins from Chester so something like that would suit us I think. As you said, the only way we can know is to get ourselves over and have a look.
oh and incidentally....just been looking at info on Okotoks....it looks really nice
