''Before coming to Canada, I did a massive amount of research, and I like to think I knew what I was letting myself in for. The one thing I couldnt plan for was just how lonely I would be, and how much I'd miss my family. The first time I came out was fine - I was with other people and I knew i would be home again in November for my holidays - but the second time was much different. I had know idea just how desperatly alone I would feel, and after two weeks in the truck I was a wreck. Just the thought of Kirsty and the Kids was enough to make me weep, and then the realisation that it would be 5 months before I could see them again would make me fall apart. Then I started to dwell on silly things, like what if the last time I saw my father was the last time I would EVER see my father (he's well into his seventies). Suddenly I felt really desolate and frightened, and wanted to go home. Then, on Sunday night, my Father said something on the phone that made up my mind - he simply pointed out that I didn't have to be there, and I could leave whenever I liked.''

Oh thanks for the replies much appreciated.
I can understand totaly his reasons as I think we all go through the same. We only spoke yesterday in regards to family and poss the last we may see of parents as ours are in their 70's also.
We are not really a close family but the thoughts are still there. My family have never called since we got here and never even called let alone came to see us before we left even though we pointed out the above to them.
Sorry it never worked out peterlee maybe apply via SW (long route) and wait the 4 years and all come back together.
never say never eh.
