Hey everyone I have a question for all of you....We came over here 4 years ago on the pnp program my hubby is still with the same company and we have got our PR card ok so that being said it's time to start thinking of citizenship so when i went on to get all the relevent forms I was blown away when I found out that because my OH was running in the states that he doesn't qualify for citizenship yet and won't do for some time no one told us that when we came across and get this I asked that specific question at an immigration meeting we had here in Saskatoon and was told that because he worked for a canadian company he would be alright do any of you know if this is true i am at the moment feeling sick and dissapointed that this wasn't told at the time the companies recruited us from the UK they should have informed us of this or am I being stupid here any feed back would be greatly appreciated on this one.

I think any drivers thinking of applying for Citizenship should read this thread above in the immigration forum as I was not aware that nights spent out of Canada in the US for long haul drivers DO NOT count towards your citizenship qualifying time...
,,,Was anyone else aware of this????

Also only the last four years prior to application count so if your still running accross the border on regular trips away for between 4 - 8 days at a time would it ever be poss to build up enough days:
Q1: How long do I have to live in Canada before I am eligible for Canadian citizenship?
A1: You must live in Canada for three (3) years (1,095 days) within the four (4) years (1,460 days) immediately before applying for citizenship.
Very rough calc based on 3 days a week in Canada = 624 over 4 years
3 x 52 = 156 x 4 = 624 Days
Obviously the above is a wide guesstimate but if you are a long haul driver for a long time it could prove impossible to gain citizenship or unless I am reading it all wrong????

Having spent 12-months residing in Canada, I attended a meeting with Ottawa and as I drove Toronto to Florida of the total drive time - minus the days away from Canada in 12-months I had only 113 days considered as part of my 3-yrs.
To this my son and wife who lived in Toronto did gain 328 days, but I returned to Australia and after 6-mths away thosde accumalited days were suspended.

guys I'm glad I posted this question on here I thought it was just me that didn't know this you wouldn't beleive how angry I am at this as I did ask at the meeting I had with immigration 4 yrs ago and they said we would be ok as long as we resided in Canada WELL THEY WERE WRONG and you know what gets me the most is that we were never offered to run just in Canada it was in our contract to run America had we known the above we would have thought twice.

Yeah, Forever Gremmie BUT:
You must live within Canada for at least 2 full years within a 5 year period to keep your PR status.
