Default Calgary MELT Exam

Hi,

I am wondering if someone could advice me on the process on the MELTs test. Im a hgv driver in Scotland but I believe you have to sit a MELTs test once in Canada?

The Alberta page doesn't really cover it.

I have had my class 1 licence for 6 years in Britain so im not sure if that covers the 24 months they need or if that's just in Canada.

Thanks

If you're referring to the 'experience' reduced version of MELT then it specifically says in the criteria that you must already hold an Alberta Class 1, 2 or 3 licence and have 2 years experience on a 3 axle vehicle of this type within Canada, these are semi, bus/coach or rigid truck license, there's no accomodation made for foreign experience, the entire reason behind MELT being made mandatory was inexperience/poor training of certain foreign drivers resulting in Humboldt. To qualify for a work permit you'll need to prove at least 2 years class 1 experience in the UK but MELT is totally separate to immigration requirements, you'll have to do the full MELT course and it is not cheap, not currently aware of any company who pays for foreign drivers to do this, you'd need to make some calls and expect a long contract to "repay" the training to the company.
