Default Atlantic provinces

Hello everyone! I have been following this forum for a few months now and have finally decided to join in! Myself my hubby and 3 kids have been looking at moving to Canada for a couple of years now. We went to Calgary for a job interview 2 years ago, got the job and then got cold feet so never went! Now we are on a mission again and have researched trucking companies till we are blue in the face. We had an interview with H&R in july and got a job offer but we haven't accepted it.

Now we are turning our attention to the Atlantic provinces due to the high housing costs in Alberta and I am wondering if anyone can help point us in the right direction of some companies there. I have just sent Seafood Express a message but I am unsure of how many days at a time the runs are and what the pay is? Would be great if anyone can help.

Nova Scotia looks good as does PEI and NB but im not sure about PNP in Nova Scotia. Can anyone shed any light?!

Thanks Sarah,

Theres so much info on here to read which is great but can be confusing too when you end up going round in circles! If I find any info too I will let you know about it. I really know very little about the east coast except that you can get a massive palace house for peanuts! Which is great but I need to find my hubby a job first!

If any of you need contacts or advice about NB,NS and PEI - Just ask. If you have questions but no answers, just make a list and PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.

We off in Feb to PEI - My husband Simon has employment with Seafood Express.

Already have and I have spoken to the company about them.............but theres alot more to the story. Kerlynkeo's husband works for them and they are very happy. I am in contact with 2 other families whos husbands work for the company and they all say the same.

Plus Dave will let me know what he thinks when he comes home.

Thanks for the concern though.

Hi All,

This makes interesting reading if you haven't already done so www.emigrate2.co.uk/Jobs_and_Money_detail-99.htm
Quite a bit of interesting info!

We too are making NS our destination but fortunately are not reliant on a job straight away and hope to make a 3/4 month stay over from mar 2008 and purchase a property and generally get to know the facts while over there, keeping our UK home until wer'e settled. The beauty of NS is that if you have equity in property in the UK you will probably be able to buy outright so straight away your biggest expense i,e, Mortgage will be non existant, a nice position to be in. So the wages bit becomes not quite so important.
Once over there obviously I will post reports on my local findings.

My brother did this in the States and he settled there after 18 months of back and forth. But I hate to add that if you do not have funds over say £70,000 then it will be no birthday party, you are going to struggle similar to what you would in the UK . Judging from speaking to canadian residents from 3 previous visits.

Thanks for your reply. I hope you manage to find what you are are looking for in NS, it sounds like you are in a nice position to get settled. Im curious about the £70,000 + you mentioned to get started. Im just wondering what that money would be for, for example, would that be over and above the money you would need for a house deposit?

Hi Karla, thanks for your reply. Can you tell me how many nights away your hubby is going to be on runs and what the average weekly pay might be?

Thanks,

Hi Rachel

My OH has a job offer in NS just waiting for his LMO now, after 6 months we can apply for PNP. We're hoping to go in October we were told the LMO will take approx 3 weeks (its been 3 weeks and 1 day) so not long now.

If I can answer any questions you have I will just Pm me.
Good Luck

Rosie

He can choose his hours, so anything from 3 - 28 days away, its up to him. But Simon is looking at 5 at first. The pay depends, one bloke who is out there earns $2100 after tax deductions - hes away for 3 days and then off for 3-4 days.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Karla. I suppose the lower cost of housing etc. will compensate for the lower wages. It looks as though you can pick and choose how much you want to earn or be at home which seems good. We had a reply from Robin at SE today as well so we have a bit more info now too.
