Your guesses for cost of a 4 mile ambulance ride
So, friends were visiting us in California a couple of weeks ago. They flew in on Friday PM, we had an easy day on Saturday, because we were experiencing a temp peak at around 110 degrees. They had jet lag, etc. and we had access to a private box at the baseball game on Saturday evening. (Thanks to Poppy Girl!).
The man, in his early 70's passed out.... the stadium staff were brilliant but he decided to hydrate but that he was OK.
He sat outside for the game, and when he stepped into the air conditioning, he passed out again, and vomited.
This time we decided to get him to hospital.
The bill for the ambulance arrived at our house, so I know exactly what it's cost.
The hospital was 4 miles away.
How much do you think it was?
BTW he was tested for a heart attack which was negative...... and he perked up when he realized that 110 degrees was not nice sunbathing weather.

Depends on if it was private or not. Probably around $2500 if it was run by the fire department/hospital/etc. Maybe 2-3 times that if it was private.

A neighbor got a bill for a similar ride a couple of weeks back...think it was the local fire dept ems wagon, and I'm sure he said that was just under a grand...so I'll lowball it at $950.....ever the optimist

Mate got charged $750 to go a mile and a half in one, because he hadn't gotten his PCP to pre-approve it, when he collapsed.
It wasn't deemed necessarily life threatening.

If we are really just talking about the ambulance and nothing else then I would guess about $850 based on actual (but not very recent) experience in California.
(... but, of course, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than that ...)

She did a great job of running down the hall way in a pair of high heels calling for the EMT's
