Because of my pronunciation, people think it's Sunny.

Interesting. I'm reminded of when I once called about an apartment in my 20's. The landlord was British and when I inquired about the address I was told it was on Shore Avenue. I was pretty confused because I wasn't aware of a Shore Avenue in that neighborhood and though I knew it pretty well. It wasn't after I heard him saw the name several times that I realized he was referring to Shaw Avenue. ;)

My mate Graham (Grey-am) gets really pissed of when he is constantly called "Gram"

Why is it so difficult to pronounce it properly? Same as those damn Gram crackers.

Tell him I'm sorry, I would say 'Gram' too. I've never heard it pronounced 'Grey-am' ... I'd feel silly saying that. :o

I admit I would as well, kind of like I was saying vee-hick-cull instead of vehicle.

Bob - I don't quite follow. I pronounce it 'khal-in' - is that what you mean or no? I don't say it the same as "collon".

My cousin is called Graham, find it so odd to hear 'Gram' here.

I dont think I see (hear) a diffrence in Shore or Shaw.
It might be me, as there have been a few similar dual words that I think are the same, but the missus insists are pronounced diffrently (forget examples)

I pronounce those two words totally differently, besides the fact that the 'r' in Shore is pronounced, the vowel sounds are different. :)

I remember we discussed the Shaw/Shore thing a year or so ago in a similar thread to this.. I think most English people would pronounce those two words exactly the same. I think also English people would say these words the same;
shaw
maw
law (etc)
.. all pronounced the same as lore, shore. I'm not sure how Americans pronounce "maw".. OK, I just listened to the pronunciation on Merriam-Websters and it sounds a bit like the others.

I was just remembering, my high school English teacher (who was from Mass) used to pronounce bottle just like DH-bot ul. Hmmm.
