Polydactyl Cat's were popular with sailors back in the day, they often took the cats on ships as Polydactyl Cat's were excellent at catching mice (better then normal cats apparently) and sailors believed the cats had better balance at sea and apparently believed the cats brought good luck.

Polydactyl Cat's are most common along the US east coast, Canadian east coast and Western England, although the mutation can happen in any cat population.

This story even made international news. Certainly a stupid decision and the part of the young adults, sad for the children involved one not even born yet.

Dad is dead and mom might end up in prison for a decade. Hopefully the children will have family to go to.

Life lessons learned just too late to be helpful: if you have the misfortune to be young, black and female, don't you go messing with middle aged white guys driving big red pickup trucks. Especially because the chances are he'll have a gun and a temper... this is such a sad indictment of the state of both racial tensions and gun ownership stupidity in the US.

A white guy at work was telling me how he got escorted out of town by some rednecks in a pickup when he was younger. Moral of the story, keep away from small towns. In the UK, the worse thing that would happen is not being served in the local pub.
