Not a surprise. There are only victims in this case. The poor mother is alleged to suffer from mental illness, and having a crying baby probably tipped her over the edge. Who knows. I just have a lot of sympathy for people in this position.

The military is so ingrained in US culture that someone choosing not to stand for the flag (a freedom allowed by what the flag itself represents) is seen as disrespecting the military.

They are too wrapped up in the symbolism that they forget what the symbols represent.

I've had several veteran friends remind people that when they signed up they swore to protect the constitution. They did not swear to protect the flag, the song, the people, or anything else.

Probably the weirdest part of it all is that they play the national anthem at sports games in the first place. It makes sense at international sporting events where each team represents their country, but not at games where nearly every team in the league is from the same country.
