As a resident of this community, with a friend who lost her little nephew, this stuff makes me utterly nauseous. How can these people be so sick and deranged as to think what happened here could be a fabrication? They must have sad little lives to get their jollies disparaging the grief of others.

I don't know if Glenn Beck started the resurgence or just rode the wave, but he certainly didn't help things when it came to feeding these kinds of crazy fantasies.

I have similar questions about 'prayer'. The way it seems to work is, the more people that 'vote' (by praying) for someone, the more likely a good outcome will occur. That must be the way it is supposed to work, since a preacher will say, 'everyone pray for (our sick friend) Julie ...' ... as if, the more that pray, the more likely God will intervene. How can that make sense? If I don't have many friends to pray for me, does that mean I'm less likely to get the attention of God? What about a baby born to a tribe in Africa ... no knowledge of God; will that baby be more likely to die if sick, due to no one praying for the baby?

I would love to hear a reasoned answer from someone who is sincerely religious ...

Saying "I'll pray for you" is a way of seeking credit for helping while actually doing nothing of any use whatsoever.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

There's nothing like an omnipotent being who needs a popularity contest to decide who gets their help. I should do that at home with the kids one year. "OK, I can only afford one Christmas present. Whoever proves they love me the most will get it, while the other one is going on the bonfire ..."

I think I should start a new thread of WTF did I just read

Like the theory of evolution. So if I stand in one spot long enough the iron ore in the ground will evolve itself into steel and then a Cadillac Coupe Deville will just grow out of the ground.

Yes, yes, that's exactly what the theory of evolution is about

Plainly wrong as there is nothing "evolved" about a Cadillac.

Isn't it a primordial form, that is a stepping stone to something more advanced?

What, like a plank of wood with some pram wheels attached to it?

There is no transitional Cadillac, if you find one they'll just say you now have two gaps in the dealership.

I would imagine that that would be the sort of thing that a Caddy might evolve into given enough time.

I'm sincerely atheist so not very helpful but I'll take almost any opportunity to post this clip

For some reason the sound is very quiet though...
