Nothing has changed for me, except the pipes. I now take advantage of the superior water pressure here to eliminate any potential causes of blockages one at a time.

If someone had a particularly dodgy curry it was considered the decent thing to use the ladies.

i have my own water system, I think we tested it to 120psi, I usually have it set at about 60psi but can twiddle with it.

It's not the sewer pipes - they're 3" minimum and sometimes 4". A good part of the problem is that that port out of the bottom of the toilet is only about 2" (on all the toilets I have ever seen), so if "it" can make it out of the toilet, it will make it down the sewer pipe.

So if the pipes aren't a problem and American toilets all have the same size exit port, it has to be mostly down to the design of the flush mechanism. I replaced two of our toilets with new Kohler design efficient flush toilets. Apart from being an adult not childen sized toilet the difference appears to be that most of the water entering the bowl from the cistern comes out of a hole at the bottom of the bowl (well below the waterline), and shoots horizontally backwards taking whatever is in its way with it. The noise it makes on flushing is a brief watery cough, followed by a few seconds of water refilling the cistern. In three years it has blocked once, and only very briefly.

I think my pipes are 6inch but agree it is an issue at the toilet level. Interesting about Kholer, I have 4 to install.

I can't recommend Kohler highly enough, and they are still a private/family owned business that does all its manufacturing in the US.

Interestingly, as far as I know, they themselves manufacture everything that has their name on it - taps, toilets, kitchen cabinets, .... and small engines. Yup, it's the same Kohler!
