I saw HOP 1N on a red Capri in August 1974, so the month it was issued. It was a Birmingham registration, but IIRC I saw it on Anglesey.

My current truck plate (Brighton fan :-) ) and my new motorcycle one (they wouldn't let me have BOLLOX ).

Best US licence plate I can remember was on a black Nissan in Arizona: "U WANKA". Best UK plate I can remember was on a Morris Minor: "MAG 1C". I.e. that was the original car it was on, this was before you were allowed to transfer them. I did see: "A6" on an Audi A6 in London. Best one I've seen locally is: "GT40" on a Ford GT.
I think Paul Daniels ended up with the MAG 1C one on his Rolls Royce. I saw it broken down in a lay by near Peterlee in County Durham years ago... My plate here reads ITBLOKE.

Not UK related -- I'm still amazed that "8FT2X4" got by California DMV.

Also amazed at "ROSH TOV." A perfectly good Hebrew phrase which translates into a double entendre in English. <sigh>

"Got by"? In what respect? It's a piece of lumber, I have never heard it used any other way.

On an unrelated note, I saw a Tesla this morning that didn't have a personal tag on it.
