WHO CAN AFFORD THESE PRICES

WHO CAN AFFORD THESE PRICES
Back in March I purchased 2 premium economy tickets to London. Thought at the time the cost of the two at $4600 was over the top but couldn't see them getting much cheaper. Just looked online as curiosity got me as to the current price and those same 2 tickets on the same flights are now $12,400.
Twelve grand to sit down the back in what is economy all but for a better seat. Who can afford to pay that! This might well be my last trip back to the UK.

I can get CLT-LHR round trip, non-stop tickets for a week in August for $1,100, which is cheaper than I have seen them in years, probably more than a decade, which is incredible unless I have by random coincidence hit a flash sale.

Prices are definitely up but that is ridiculous. I fly back home Sunday and luckily I can book friends and family tickets through BA l, but even so it was still pricey. Car hire is through the roof. Plus all the shit that’s going on back home with strikes, queues and luggage carpets, I really think this is going to be my last trip home for a while. It’s great to see friends and family, but the desire to return home diminishes more and more each year.

I'm only paying the equivalent of USD 2,700 for a return in Premium Economy from Brisbane to Heathrow - who the heck are you flying with?

I've not flown anywhere since 2007 but pre-pandemic I was looking at Moncton (local airport, having to transfer in Canada) to Nice (possibly changing in Germany ) which was available for about $850 return. It comes up now for just over $1000.

I flew PHX - EDI a few weeks ago for $2300 in cattle class, the next day it was up to $3,600. Outbound was cancelled from PHX-JFK-EDI and re-booked to PHX-DTW-AMS-EDI arrival went from 09:40 to 19:00
Return was originally EDI-AMS-SEA-PHX this was cancelled and changed twice finally was EDI-BOS-ATL-PHX, ATL-PHX flight was boarding as the BOS flight landed I made it the luggage didn't.
The joys of travel!

Re: WHO CAN AFFORD THESE PRICES
We're doing JFK->LHR there on Virgin and back on Delta for $550 booked about two months ago for the peak July travel season. That's for base economy but really not so bad.
The best price was $350 return booked March 2020 and moved for free to December 2021

The worst transatlantic flight I ever had was on Virgin - the least leg room by a significant margin, and not special in any regard to compensate for being crammed in like cattle. I'd not fly Virgin again unless there was no viable alternative, and I actually needed to travel.

BA, who now seem to have what they describe as a company charge of $600 added into the "fees and charges" after the base fare.
