I suppose even if the salary is competitive and comes with benefits, families need to consider relocation costs, schools maybe, and the chance of the spouse getting a halfway-decent job..
A lot of people can't move because they are upside down on their houses and, in recourse states, have no way of selling. Apparently this is a real problem across the spectrum, with job relocations even for senior executives having plummeted in the last 18 months.

I believe Oregon requirements are soft contact lenses.

Portland police now accept non USA citizens providing they can becoming a citizen within 1 year of starting.

We don't have that problem we boarder Portland which is about 550,000 population and are part of a metro area of roughly 1.5 million.

Does Portland still require a 4 year degree? I keep hearing different things about the hiring here, but the latest I hear is that they're actively looking to replace the coming year's retirement losses.
Do you guys require a 4 year, or 2 year degree? And I'm curious since the topic has come up in Portland, and considering the, ahem, history in OC, Canby & your neighbors.. where's Mil. on the random drug testing deal?
I personally can't believe the union can oppose it (here) with a straight face.

Portland will waive the degree requirement for military or law enforcement experience, reserve police officers or 911 dispatchers. Otherwise an associates degree is fine for Portland I think.

Milwaukie has no degree requirement.

That's me done, then. I can't wear contacts - they really screw up my vision.

Another dream flushed. I always wanted to run after a felon holding my nightstick to stop it bouncing around, TJ Hooker style.

lolz, Portland Police would make your head spontaneously combust, OF. You'd love being a citizen here.

PPS has a reputation for sometimes accidentally beating the tar out of people n' stuff. And we have an active & vocal group of civilians that like to keep the heat on. I think you'd be good at it.

Denver PD has been in the news a lot recently for beating and assaulting people. It's a shame.

So how did Lansbury get on an interview panel?
Did the election thing pan out for him?

He's probably setting up the victory suite right now. Bastich didn't even invite me to the party with all the free drinks and finger food.
I'll be watching for him on the early returns.

Dunno how he got on the selection committee. He's been active with the PSAC, so maybe that's how. Drat, speaking of that, I've got a board meeting tonight.
Have to give Lansbury credit.. he visited all the neighborhood assn meetings. We didn't see bupkis up here. Oh, tell a lie. The 'fund the historical museum' people wanted to make a presentation but the Chair wouldn't let them, because there was no opposition.

Local politics is a blast, seriously.
