That is amazing - on a similar note (but ones and twos, not 35 positions) I was reading about rural public libraries where they simply cannot get applicants for professional positions because the towns are too remote for qualified people to relocate too.
I suppose even if the salary is competitive and comes with benefits, families need to consider relocation costs, schools maybe, and the chance of the spouse getting a halfway-decent job..

We don't have that problem we boarder Portland which is about 550,000 population and are part of a metro area of roughly 1.5 million.

Do you guys require a 4 year, or 2 year degree? And I'm curious since the topic has come up in Portland, and considering the, ahem, history in OC, Canby & your neighbors.. where's Mil. on the random drug testing deal?
I personally can't believe the union can oppose it (here) with a straight face.

PPS has a reputation for sometimes accidentally beating the tar out of people n' stuff. And we have an active & vocal group of civilians that like to keep the heat on. I think you'd be good at it.

Denver PD has been in the news a lot recently for beating and assaulting people. It's a shame.

I'll be watching for him on the early returns.
Dunno how he got on the selection committee. He's been active with the PSAC, so maybe that's how. Drat, speaking of that, I've got a board meeting tonight.
Have to give Lansbury credit.. he visited all the neighborhood assn meetings. We didn't see bupkis up here. Oh, tell a lie. The 'fund the historical museum' people wanted to make a presentation but the Chair wouldn't let them, because there was no opposition.
Local politics is a blast, seriously.
