What would you retrain as?
If you guys had the opportunity to retrain, given what you know now, what areas of work do you think have the most potential for career growth and income?

I would go into either the plumbing or electrical trades. Very good money to be made in those fields and ample opportunities to be self-employed which is a definite bonus.

I've always been interested in law, so I'd probably go down that route - It's also a job where there is always demand as people do stupid stuff or companies do deals. Not sure about growth, but plenty of income.
Failing that, something in aviation

It sounds corny, but I'd go into film and television. Not as an actor, but directing, producing or other technical field. It's always fascinated me.

I'd love to have any pilots license. I don't think my maths is up to it though!

Basket ball player. I'd start at 10, practice and play hours every day and qualify myself for the big leagues before 21. Seems one of the few careers that can make you a multi millionaire within three-five years

Re: What would you retrain as?
Seeing as I have no training at all or career, it would not be retraining for me, but I would do something in the medical field like Lab Assistant or device reprocessing or another short term training job.
Pay isn't great, but better than 11/hr.
If I were smarter and did well in school especially math, I would do psychiatric nursing but the math and other academics say it's a no go.

I regret not getting my degree, so I'd like to go back to finish that and see if I can get into something in astrophysics like I wanted to do originally.
Limitless time and money though? Pilot, no questions.

I did have (or made!) the opportunity and retrained to be a physician. I don't recommend it, either as a first career or as a change of career.

Brain surgeon or fried chicken cook. I'd have to give careful consideration to both of these careers

Many mentioned being a pilot. I am not a professional pilot but have been flying since 1969. It is a great hobby and in many ways a better hobby than career. It is within reach of most people, too many of which think it is too expensive for them. Find out where your local EAA chapter meets for their monthly fly-in breakfast on Saturday morning. The EAA (experimental aircraft association ) has website and most local city or county airports have a chapter that sponsor a monthly flyin breakfast. One of these on a good weather Saturday, may have 50 to 100 small planes fly in, many even built by their owners, plus many factory built. It is a good chance to meet people who like to fly and to see the large variety of small aircraft available. You can still buy a flying aircraft from 15 to 30k.

If I was back in the UK I would be doing the Embroidery Guilds city and guilds courses in textiles. When I did my foundation course at college I was offered places on both the textile and painting course. Being the romantic I went for the painting option but as I have matured, I have worked more with textiles than painting, although I still do both. As alternative to an arts career I think I would have like to be been a meteorologist.

If I was to retrain , I would do something with a Government pension, retire at 55 and spend my time flying. I don't think those jobs exist anymore.
