I'm the same way - can't even set foot in a house that owns a cat, even if they dispatch it to the garden or whatever. I grew up with them so I don't know when this developed. My reaction to dogs is less severe, but still, after about 2-4 hours at any friend's house who owns dogs I develop the same kind of reaction.

My dog doesn't have fur, but hair, and I've never had a problem with him or my other dogs (also hair/no fur) that live with the kids now.

I know what you mean. If my youngest daughter goes into a house where there is a cat, within half an hour, her face turns beet red, and she breaks out in hives. Does not seem to have a problem with dogs though. She even has one at home.
