Default US healthcare companies in UK

I just saw an article where USA healthcare companies were opening hospitals & clinics in UK to accommodate those wanting to avoid waiting for care thru NHS. The article mentioned two or three companies especially the Cleveland Clinic hospital system. I was surprised to see this.

There’s a lot of money to be made, I suspect. Plus, isn’t that what the Brexiteers wanted? To be closer to America, in spirit, than the EU?

It always amuses me when people seem utterly shocked to discover the UK has a thriving Private Healthcare system. My brother and Dad have used it in recent years - my brother as a result of employer benefits and my Dad taking a surgery that would be a long wait as not an urgent need. However, it's largely a supplementary system, you are nearly always better off going via the NHS for significant surgeries, life threatening illness etc. My Dad was also a recent recipient of the latter, having Chemo and then urgent surgery which now sees him with a clean bill of health. By and large, the people staffing the critical role are doing so after meeting their NHS obligations. Having a toe fixed with a nice room, fancy dinner and some wine works well when it 30 quid a month or included by your employer.
