Well, having having a sad start to 2010, with my Dad dying, then moving back to the UK for good from Canada, I can say, with all honesty, it has been the hardest thing I have done with my life.....BUT and there is a big but..... ITS BEEN THE BEST.......
It took me 2 months of solid job hunting every single day, lots of tears and frustration, BUT, I did get a job.... and I found a house to rent, so I have somewhere to call home...... and, for the first time this year, I feel like I am making steps to a new future.........
And its been a struggle to make new friends and re-connect with old friends, but well worth it, so, for all of you out there, dithering about moving back, dont, ...................just do it........ the UK is such a beautiful place to call home, no-where else quite like it............

Great news on the job/home front and you are right, the UK is such a beautiful place, I still miss it every day and I have been back here almost 7 weeks...........

I am on the job hunting scene myself, I didn't realise it would be this difficult to find a job. I am up to 22 applications so far, about 8 knockbacks and no interviews!!!

Just popped in for a quick nosy round, back to the job hunt........

it is so upifting to read these posts, as someone desperate to go home, it makes me feel so more sure.
I am so sorry about your Dad but very happy for you that you are settling.
I a 58 been here in US 13 years, should have left 12 years ago and it is sad to read so many of us in the same position. but I look forward to sharing my plans with you all, it is going to be a go it alone, hubby does not want to return and my 3 teenagers I am not sure. I have a plan and I want to go back alone first to spend time with my mum who is 87, everyone here at home can manage without me for awhile.
Good Luck to everyone trying to make the move.

Thank you all for your lovely replies. And for me, it was the best thing to do, not the way I would have wanted it, and it was a sad reason I came home, but, as I sit in the garden and look out and enjoy the lovely weather, I feel I am home.
it took me over 100 job applications, but I was so determined to get a job, and I would have taken almost anything, but it worked out..... I wont kid anyone, its not like it used to be, when finding a job wasnt too difficult, its really hard, but dont give in, and for those still thinking of coming home, COME BACK, its still as beautiful as ever, and there is one thing i will say for the british folk....... sooooooooooo helpful, since i have been home, i have had so much help, I dont have much family, so old friends from school days have reconnected, and new work colleagues all so helpful....
I think being away for almost 5 years, has made me appreciate England so much more..........
I guarantee for those thinking of moving, it will be hard, there will be tears, there will be stress BUT it will be worth it, and after all, home is home....
Take care all........... xx

I moved back to the Midlands... and although I am familar with the place, I have forgotten how to get around this area, and people have moved on, so the friends I had before i left, although still there, arent as sociable as before, and that totally understandable really... but this hasnt bothered me, life is for living to the fullest...... and I have reconnected with old school friends from the past which has been great...... i know its scary, but, worth the journey, x
