Didn't anyone do the Harvest Festival thing? TG is just a formal version.

I`m for the 'When in Rome' stuff. Wifey`s a yank so its all round the MIL house for Turkey etc with 25 of the in-laws.
Besides its a day off work with pay and that don`t happen often.

The wife is American so we always celebrate it (even though she is working all day tomorrow). I think its nice to give thanks, although we try to do this more than once a year
My long term plan is to naturalize ( a couple more years yet), so I guess it will truly be my holiday then; until then I'll enjoy the day, and the two paid days off work it brings - God Bless America (I can be bought for two paid days - fickle sod that I am)

Voted no ....always hated a family get together that included more than just the immediate family.....making nice to people you only see once a year tests my patience to its limits ...smiling and saying "very nice"..."thats interesting" ....when you want to say ..."**** off you annoying little turd"

The only family gatherings worth attending was down the pub with my brothers...

As for the food ...green bean puke and marsh mellows on dog doo ...no thanks

I really enjoy Thanksgiving, but I'm sure I read somewhere that it used to take place in October, I wish they'd move it back to October, it's way too close to Christmas.

If that was the case, it would make a lot more sense. As it stands I think its a Christmas killer - people go all out at Thanksgiving..use up all their vacation..then celebrate Christmas by going to work on the 26th. Great....

I voted no, cos I'm not there yet!

But, my gf being American and all, I am pretty sure I will celebrate it when I'm there! I will have time off work, the gf's mother will cook and it's quite a big thing for their family so I think I'll probably quite enjoy it. I love my family things over here and enjoyed spending Easter wth her family so...

I've just finished lubing up the turkey here in Brum - Mrs T is making a pumpkin pie and mum has just parboiled the spuds and parsnips.

I didn't vote, because I do celebrate it with my in-laws, but it isn't quite as meaningful to me as it is to them. Not that I'm not thankful for anything, just I don't have that same history of celebrating it as they do. Hmm not sure that makes much sense.

I’ve been over her a year and I still cannot get my head around it, even after reading about its true meaning. It just seems another chance for American excess and commercialism i.e. food and black Friday.

The only bonus is the 2 days off work, but I worked the equivalent of 4 already this week and I’ll work 6 next week to make up for the time off.
