The US is my home, but I left it about 10 years ago for Canada, similar struggles here as the US for the most part, but health insurance being provided by the government for basic healthcare needs reduces stress and allows one to be slightly ahead of the game.

I am in a lower income bracket so healthcare in the US was very much a financial burden and drain.

Hungryhorace - Or like me are on the other end of the financial spectrum atm and are covered healthwise through Medicaid atm, but looking forward to getting back to earning a decent salary (not necessarily extravagant, tbh salaries in creative professions are only extravagant for the elite few).

We are not high earners, we struggled for many years but finally landed fairly decent jobs with insurance.We have had some good years.

We are older now and unfortunately are hitting the time of life when major medical problems rear their ugly heads. Medical bills are pretty constant right now and it is a big concern. As long as we can both work we will be ok but it is worrisome. Moving back, well you still need money and we are not exactly at an age where it is easy to secure jobs.

Or both. .... My GP's office archived my file because I hadn't been to see him in 18 months. When I went to register with my new GP (because I was due for a tetanus shot), my new GP asked me which long term medications I was on. I told him "None." He gave me a strange look, then asked "none at all?" "Yes, none at all!" Apparently I am unusual, nay extraordinary.

I'm in my mid fifties and have never been on any meds except for short term antibiotics.

Good for you, me neither, though you have a few years on me.

I had never been an inpatient in a hospital until about 4½ years ago when a scratch on my arm turned septic and lead to blood poisoning, requiring intravenous antibiotics and surgical removal of the sore. I was out after three days, and learned not to underestimate the dangers of relatively minor scratches!

There is always that uncertainty. Unfortunately, just because one has good health now, does not mean it will continue forever.

So true. 10 years ago if you asked me, I was in near perfect health physically. Fast forward 10 years to the present, and I see a doctor pretty much monthly. I've a got a small list of ailments going. Unfortunately they are all outside my control or ability to prevent, genetics they say, gotta love getting the bad genes in the family....lol

50 was the year of falling apart for me

Started about 1 year ago for me...damnit. Not unhealthy, just aches and pains I knew were not going away.

My physical medical issues started around 32. 35 now. My dad is in better health at 56 then I am at 35, but my medical issues are genetic in nature, not from anything I did.

I was a sick baby too, got meningitis at 7 days old. I just lucked out on the genetic lottery and got the cruddy genes, even got the freckles and red hair which I can't say was fun having as a kid...lol

My red headed mother used to tan by connecting the freckles.
When dealt lemons make lemonade I suppose.
