Finally happened Saturday night, we were right on the edge of town (literally, a 1/4 mile before the houses start) just at dark and I had let my guard down... My wife pointed at one on the left and I failed to see the five on the right, one of which jumped into the road just as I was turning my head to check that side. I was doing around 45mph. The damage: Big dent on the top of the hood near the front on the pass side, broken headlight, pass side front fender dented up enough that the front door won't open all the way, dent and trim torn off of the pass side front door. We have full coverage, but it's a '03 Hyundai Accent with 170,000mi. The insurance guy is supposed to call us back today, I'm wondering if it's totalled, we still owe about 2 grand on it.

PITA.
Yikes! Glad to know you're all right. Scary!

J-Yeezus.... '03 with 170k miles?

Glad to hear all are okay. Lucky the others didn't behave like lemmings.

Years ago, my sister was with a friend and they were driving and hit a deer.... suffice to say, killed it. The car was a wreck and they were on the side of the road in utter shock when a pick-up truck kindly pulled up... out pops this guy, who out of curiosity surveyed the scene and enquired about the deer and if they wanted it. "What??? NO!!" was the reply. Next thing they knew was the guy loaded it up into the bed of his p/u and he drove off!! It was about another hour until help arrived.

In all seriousness (and roadkill/hillbilly jokes aside) I feel guilty that I didn't take it. I don't even know if I could or not legally. It was pretty big doe too. It was her head/neck/chest that hit the car, the tenderloins, backstraps and hindquarters were probably OK. I am going to find out what the rules on that are in case it ever happens again. It just seemed like such a waste.

I agree, if it's already dead what's the point in letting it rot..

You should have taken it to the place that butchers it for poor people.

That's the thing, I'm not sure what I could or couldn't do with it legally. If I knew I could have taken it though, it was going in my freezer! The roads around here are littered with carcasses...

I doubt anyone will argue if it was for charity!

Although, if you need a license for deer there, they might call someone.

We bought it used in '04 with 10k on it.

It's still bow season here, and driving around with an untagged deer is a no no... I do have unfilled bow tags, but they were at home and I'm not sure if I can tag a deer with an archery tag if I infact killed it with a Hyundai. I should have educated myself sooner.

You are lucky no one was seriously hurt. I live in Ohio, so you hear horror stories all of the time. I know a guy whose mom was kicked to death by the deer she hit while she sat stuck behind the wheel.
