Default Small steps - one at a time .....

Well as of this moment - all, almost all, of everything I've accumlated here in the US is now in the garage - all nicely presented for the garage sale tomorrow morning. Our living room furniuture, bedroom furniture, dining room - all gone!! I can[t believe that someone would drive for an hour and a half to buy a wheelbarrow!! A really sad looking old wheelbarrow .....

Then there's the woman who phoned yesterday asking abour the ride on mower .... she asked what it looks like .. I told her "It[s a mower .... a red mower ..." Id put it on craigslist ... all the details and the pics ... grief!!!

This is just the start of the whole moving back home process - and you know something? I really couldn['t care less about the material things - they just don[t matter.

My boss lives at the end of our road - I havent told them we're moving back to the UK - god knows what she's going to think when she sells us selling everything off lock, stock and barrel tomorrow!!

Anyway just me babbling away ...

Good Luck with your garage sale. Years ago we held our 1st sale and I went in the garage about 6.30am in my pj's to get extra milk out of the fridge in there when my OH opened the garage door and all we heard was the slamming of car doors and a deluge of folks picking through our worldy goods(we were moving back to UK as well) so take my advice and do not open the door until the very last minute !!!

I think mwe're going to do the same. It seems so crazy expensive to send everything home for thousands of dollars. Must feel very cleansing! Are you in Aus or Canada?

Oh yes that happened to us, Our very first garage sale for the move to UK, advertised as start at 9am, someone actually rand the doorbell early to see if we could start already Once the garage opened, it was mad.
By noon I was left with a daybed and trundle with mattresses and a few boxes of bits of rubbish. The bed went after lunch to a woman who came by and looked at it three times

It was a quiet day yesterday so did it all again today. Everything now has just about gone ... just a few bits left which I think I'll have another one next Sunday. But basically, hardly anything left over. So all in all, a good weekend.

I didn't see my boss - can't say I wanted to anyway!!

The house now is just a shell ...

Are you taking any furniture home with you?....I have had another 3 phones calls about our chesterfield all wanting to lower the price....you cannot buy a 2 seater here for under $2000 and I am selling a 2 and 3 seater for $550 ...we have moved so many times and in real life I am such a homebird...I hate moving but what I have come to realise (took me long enough!!) is that a house becomes a home when your family and your furniture is in it.....we are in a rental now and it is our home but when we move it just becomes a house...some nice memories but it's just a house....more lovely memories to come in a new home.....if you know what I mean. Now to find out about Gumtree.....hopefully can sell items through that...whatever it is...lol...

Well last year when we were thinking about going home I wanted to take my furniture with me (it had all been paid for out of the money my mother had left me when she died in 07). At that time I kept looking at it all and thinking to myself "Ohhh my mother's money paid for all of this ... I can't sell it ... what a waste!! etc etc".

Since Christmas though my attitude had changed. I suddenly thought to myself "Mam wouldn't want me staying somewhere where we were unhappy ... if she were here now she'd say "Sell it!! Get rid of it!! Come Home!! So that's what I'm doing.

To ship it all would have cost me thousands and where would I ship it to? We'll be moving in with my sister and she didn't have the room for all my things as well.

To be honest with you - I feel so less burdened now that it's all gone.

I'll be 53 when I get back home - with not much to show for 6 years away - at least not material things. But I feel stronger in myself now than I have for the past 6 years - I swear I've been living in some sort of comatose bubble for the last few years!! and I can't wait to start making up to my daughter when we get back, taking her out, seeing things, doing things etc etc.

Amazing, how did you live in an empty house before the flight home?
I woke up wondering about that.
No beds, no furniture, no pots or pans? sitting on the floor with paper plates and plastic forks to eat

Well thing is, I have to keep working until literally the day we leave - now business is very quiet at the moment - and my would have no qualms about letting me go if they knew that I was off to the UK. So, Ive been selling everything off i.e furniture being taken out of the house, yard sales etc etc and hoping they dont catch on!!

God talk about slipping away quietly!

Well were now sleeping on a camp bed and a very unfortable mattress on the floor. Still have a microwave, cooker, three plates, three spoons, three knives and forks, a small TV. Im hanging on to the washing machine and dryer for as long as I can. Believe me, if I could have done it an easier way - I would have. Thing is, I have to get a visa for my OH so I need to keep 3 months statements blemish-free - only way I could think of was to get some cash together so I didnt have to touch my measly salary.

lol lol three spoons, three knives and forks ... lol sounds like the three bears!!
