Re: Sleep Apnea

Dh suffers from sleep apnea. He went for the test because, yes, I nagged him. He did snore enough to wake the dead and would stop breathing for sometimes up to 40 seconds, and would wake up in the morning feeling that he hadn't slept at all. That doesn't seem long, but when you are lying next to someone and they have stopped breathing, it gets scary. Yes he could do to lose some weight, but he does have other health problems as well that makes it hard to exercise. There can sometimes be an air leak at the side of the mask and the face and it sounds as if a hurricane is coming through, but it's a small price to pay. There are various types of masks available if the first one doesn't work for you.

A quick update:

I have had my CPAP machine for a week, now. Took a couple of nights to get used to, but, I'm well into it now.

Mask is not too problematic. Doesn't get in the way at all.

I remember Sophia mentioning she had sleep apnea...think it caused her to have heart problems.

I have a European girlfriend whose entire mid-western and very obese inlaws have sleep apnea. She giggles at the sight and sound of them all snoring away in their special masks.

Once you have the mask, you no longer snore. She is probably hearing some other bodily noises.

She swears they all hum and vibrate! She peeks in and their all lying on their backs with masks on. Maybe it's some super powered machine that stops the snoring but is very noisy in itself. Quite funny anyway!
