Scots Tablet Recipe

Anyone else made this? Some folk call it "Swiss Milk" tablet 'cos the condensed milk was from Nestle....

Anyway, the ingredients are:

2lb sugar
4 oz unsalted butter
1 cup milk
1 397g tin of condensed milk
drop of vanilla extract

While my teeth are hurting just thinking about the confection, I'm eager to impress the folk around here who have never tried it.

it looks like it would turn out like Kendal Mint cake, but without the mint??

Sounds interesting, what do I do with those ingredients?
I'm looking for things to make for a cookie candy plate for the neighbors.

Wouldn't it be easier to just beat them to death with a baseball bat?

It's not quite so crystalline as Kendal Mint cake, almost halfway between it and the texture of fudge. It's delicious, and sold at every gas station in Scotland (I think it's required by law).

It's a close relative to fudge, but usually not made as thick and with a "harder" texture.

Have fun

I love Scots tablet. We had a sweet shop near us and they used to sell it...divine! I had forgotten all about it but it looks like I will have to make some now.

All this talk of tablet has inspired me to have another go. I am off to Target for ingredients - we can all compare pictures tomorrow :D

I love tablet. Never been able to make it myself though. Usually resorted to buying it from Thorntons or sweet talking my mum or aunt to make it. Can't do any of those now can I?! :(

I. Want. Tablet! Damn you hoosierdaddy!!
