Quizno's. I'd recommend it over Subway. Subway is more 'European', if you will.

Some days ago I learnt what Po Boys are..... ;-)

I'd say more tasty overall. For example the sandwich filled with sirloin skirt steak (some years it was available, now I don't know) is way better, albeit more spicy, than the cheese-steak of subway. There was also the lobster sandwich, some years ago at Quizno's.

But I prefer hamburgers over sandwiches...

Now that's a sandwich!

On a different tack, a really good french dip sandwich...

Po boys are sandwiches/submarines but from the South...
Never eaten one, but someone at my table ordered it at a Bubba Gump restaurant.

That would not be where I would go to order a good po boy.

YES! they can be great! Some have 'interesting' fillings like 'head cheese', which I happen to like but can be strange for many.

'not as much HFCS' - this is a myth that needs killing. Even Subway removed HFCS from their breads in 2011 (https://www.subway.com/subwayroot/ab...alityBread.pdf ).
I went to my local Safeway store a while back and looked at dozens and dozens of breads on the shelves, specifically searching for a bread that contained HFCS. I could not find one single loaf. 'Oroweat' - one of the biggest 'mass produced' bread lines in the country - has no HFCS in any of their breads: Oroweat® Premium Breads | No high fructose corn syrupJimmy Johns bread does not contain HFCS.Can't find a definitive answer on Quiznos, but I suspect they don't use it. (interesting article on Quiznos and why they crashed ... Why Don't You Eat at Quiznos Any More? ) A quick google search suggests that the original 'Wonderbread' does still contain HFCS ... but who in their right mind would buy wonderbread if they are even remotely interested in nutrition/health ...

Your not trying hard enough

About half of the loaves that are under $3.50 a loaf seem to have it, or just call it corn syrup in the grocery stores around here, Target, Walmart, Hannafords, Market Basket.

Go to a proper bakery or spending more than $3.50 a loaf and you're probably right...but that's getting on to pretty expensive for anyone with kids, considering how much bread they seem to consume.
