It is a cultural problem related to gangs, rather than a religious one imo. I did part of the research for a doc on grooming that investigated Rotherham and other such areas in the UK.

It is disgraceful and sad nonetheless. Plenty of notable people from the Muslim and Asian community have been speaking out against it, but that doesn't get as much airtime unfortunately.

I am sure it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Just heard on the radio that the man who uncovered all the abuse is saying that it's widespread to many other English towns.

BBC radio and TV for a start, I have already heard quite a few people.

I also think it is gang-related. One possible religious component, which applies not just to Islam, is that when you restrict normal sexual relations between young people it is going to manifest in other ways. Just a personal theory though.

I don't like to see Rotherham in the press for such bad things, especially when it clearly happens elsewhere too. As previously stated, this is just the tip of the iceburg

You'd rather Rotherham didn't get any bad press for this?:blink:

Problem is that there have been many reports of it happening there since 2002, and several reports criticising the police for their attitiudes towards the abuse and the failure to act on complaints. People are saying that many of the complaints were just not logged, to help keep crime statistics better than they actually weere. No doubt it does happen in other places, historically Rochdale for one, but Rotherham, and surrounding areas like Doncaster and Sheffield have been in the public eye over the last few years. The Police commissioner should go, not just resign from the Labour party, which he did before he was pushed.

There is the issue of police ignoring rape allegations from women perceived as being of a lower socioeconomic status. Not confined to Rotherham.

Re: This Rotherham stuff...

Quote yesterday from a former LABOUR Member of Parliament for the Rotherham Parliamentary constituency at Westminster........Denis Macshane, a leading Labour party light on the local scene up in South Yorkshire:

"I should have done more but my own liberal leftie background made me reluctant to speak out against what was going on in Rothermam, and that made me reluctant to speak out over abuse allegations against Muslim men. I should have burrowed into this. Perhaps, yes, as a true Guardianista reader and a liberal leftie I dind't want to raise that too hard. I blame a culture of not wanting to rock the multicultural unity boat for the failure by numerous agencies and various individuals to expose child abuse and exploitation!"

Pretty much sums it up don't you think? Luvvy leftie Labour party liberalism at its finest......what could be worse in their book than being accused of racism?

Of course, if all of those men had been white native born sons of the soil of Yorkshire the whole outcome would have been entirely different!

How shameful is that in a country which has always been proud of its fair and equable system of justice administered without fear or favour! But of course, along came political correctness.....

Even here in the U.S. the level of political correctness prevents detailed and honest discussions on many matters that affect citizens and legal residents.

I don't quite think I can bring myself to believe that anyone would actually say all those words outside of a comedy sketch.
