Default ROKU & English Premier League

Not seen it mentioned but for those who like to watch EPL the NBC Live Extra app is now available on ROKU.

Interesting.

I wonder if it gives you access to all of the different streams (for the 3pm GMT Saturday kickoffs, for example) when there are a bunch of simultaneous games.

That's something I might be interested in. The streams are ok when watched on the media PC but they don't take up the whole screen and don't look to be in HD (they may be HD but are scaled slightly).

From what I remember of NBC's coverage at the tail end of last season they do.

I've been watching via their Apple TV app and it's a great picture.

Yes it does. When I looked it was showing each game starting at 3pm Saturday in a seperate icon.

Right then, all I need now is a Dr Who channel and I can cancel DirectTV!

you might want to check with your neighbours first, they might miss that lovely satellite dish you have hanging on your house.

I understand Rokus sold in the UK have a BBC iPlayer "channel" available. I've been wondering if I set up a DNS/VPN service on my wifi router whether that would fool a US Roku into "seeing" the channel.

Anyone ever try that?

I think I read about that last night. Not sure how to actually do it.

What you have to do is cancel your ROKU account and then reset it back to factory settings. Using the DNS/VPN set up a new ROKU account with a UK address and credit or debit card. When you have the UK account register the ROKU to that account.

It has to be a credit card with a UK address as they have a way of checking. I tried with my US credit card and the ROKU defaulted to the US settings.

If you cancelled Direct TV, wouldn't you lose access to 90% of the Premier League?

I thought the whole point of this thread was the ability to get the premier league on roku or did I miss something?

I assume that you need a cable account to get the games to play in the app on the Roku. It wouldn't just play the games for free would it? Although there seems to be no advantage to have it play on Roku, rather than just regular cable TV. Can we have some clarification Mr Lansbury?

Well of course you need internet, that's how roku works. Or do you mean is it like ESPN where they let you stream as long as your internet provider has paid up?

If you're wondering, my set up is DirectTV for TV, Cox cable for internet and Ooma for phone.
