Default Rising Gas Prices

Hello!

Over the last 12 months gas prices have risen from $1.97 to $2.79 a gallon here.

While it's still a quarter of the gas price in England $8.62 a gallon,

(95p a litre x 4.54 for gallon x 2 for exchange rate= $8.62)

Its made me realise that American gas prices have gone up tremendously.

Have to get rid of my SUV and get a Mini

Anyone else annoyed with the gas price?

The US gallon is smaller than Imperial.

Prices around here are about $3.45 a gallon.

You obviously haven't been paying attention then, as they hit $3 a gallon last summer too.

Now OTOH it wasn't too many years ago that I was paying 90 cents a gallon.

Have a heart there's a war in Iraq and it's fast becoming a democracy.

Exxon Mobile just posted record Q1 profits last week;
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18327049/

and scientists last week announced untapped hydrocarbon resources in Iraq's eastern desert following a previous 2003 survey, that could propel Iraq's future oil production to second behind Saudi Arabia.

Hang on a minute.................

Where did investors and analysts get the idea from that companies have to continually increase their profits from anyway ??
Isn't it sufficient that they keep making x multi-million a year - instead it has to be x multi-million this year and x+1 next year otherwise they will be deemed to have underperformed

don't forget 1 UK gallon = 1.2 US gallons. Not sure how much difference that makes, can't be arsed to work it out.

Yes, *tut tut* at SUV LOL . I want a VW or a hybrid for my next car. I drive a little Mazda, bought it thinking smaller car, better mileage, but I am disappointed that it only does about 20 mpg. I had a jag in UK that did nearly twice that and I used to feel guilty for driving that!

I am heartened by the increased awareness of MPG in car adverts over the past year. I've noticed more and more ads that boast better fuel economy, which cannot be a bad thing.

LOL I mean I can't be arsed working out the price for the gallon difference.

But being picky, just because I feel like a grump today, it's
1 uk gallon = 1.2 us gallons and
1 us gallon = 0.83 uk gallon
so actually a US gallon is 17% less

I'll still leave the price check to someone else

anyhoo, prices here are at about 2.85/gallon. Go 2 miles down the road & they are usually about 20 cents/gallon more.

What annoys me is they use every excuse in the book to put the price of gas up, ie: they are changing from heating oil to gas production (spring), they are changing from gas to heating oil production (fall), a refinery has an explosion (like that's the only one around) and when it gets sorted out , do they bring the cost of gas down, do they heck. And the media just fall into line with what the oil companies are telling them and not even questioning it.

A little off-topic, but not much. When we were in New Zealand recently, we went on a 12-hour train journey from Auckland to Wellington on the North Island. When we got to a town - 140K people - called Palmerston North, the conductor pointed out the wind farm on top of the local large hills (not quite mountains, but close). This wind farm supplies all the electricity for every single house in Palmerston North. Why is the US *SO* against using natural, renewable resources???

Anyway, it's $2.99 a gallon here right now in the Chicago suburbs, down from $3.09 at the start of the weekend (for the cheap stuff). I hate the fluctuations during the week!

In NZ, for the nearly 3 weeks we were there, I never saw a different price! It was *always* NZ$1.51 (.9) a litre. *Always*! No reason for it to fluctuate the whole time.

I filled up on the cheap muck today $2.79 a gallon, as opposed to $3.09 for super/premium whatever they call it. It was only a couple of months back I was paying $2.21 for super!
Man I think I'd have heart failure if I were to fill a car in the UK!

I can't remember where I read it but last year I saw an article that stated if you take off all the taxes the amount paid for the actual gas is higher in the US than in the rest of the world. Somebody's getting very rich and trying to make it look like the US is getting a good deal compared to other countries.

Interesting! I'd like to see those stats...
