Default Rats in the NHS

Yuck

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7542718.stm

Figures released by the Conservatives show that 70% of NHS Trusts brought in the pest controllers at least 50 times over a two-year period.

Vermin were found in wards, clinics and even operating theatres. A patients' group said the situation was revolting.

VERMIN IN HOSPITALS
Maggots in a patient's slippers
Fleas in a neonatal unit
Sterile store infested with mice
Mouse droppings in a clinic
Wasp nest in A&E

I've often remarked that the lawyer's offices I've visited are always cleaner and nicer than the doctor's offices I visit, though I haven't been to a doctor's office that scary.

I'm sure these are isolated rare cases and that is why they made the news. Every UK hospital I have been in were a lot cleaner than the ones I have visited here. The staff have been cleaner too. When the nurse was taking my bloods for my medical for AOS application here, she was chewing gum, didn't bother wearing gloves, had dirty long fingernails, didn't bother to wash her hands, looked scruffy, the room looked like it needed a good clean, and then when my hub was in hospital the room was completely dusty, there were things on the floor.

I am constantly told on the forum that my family's personal experiences do not count - only reports and statistics of whole systems count.

Not that I necessarily agree, but...

As far as the nurse you had, the doctors that do the govt work here (USCIS medicals) are not generally the cream of the crop - I have heard (and believe) other stories that are even worse.

I tend to agree. I've seen some of the worst the NHS has to offer plus some of the worse the private sector in the UK and at worst it's the same as stuff I've seen and heard about here.

My mum, before her death, worked all of her working life within the NHS (RN) for most of the early years she was required to have her uniforms washed at the hospital laundry. In the later years she washed them at home but was requireed to change them at work, they were not allowed to wear them home to work.
I live not too far from the 'medical mile' in GR, it is amazing to see doctors and nurses out in their scrubs.

Any institution hospitals, prisons, factories etc. all have to provide a stable temperature by law and as such are a fine place for any vermin to nest/breed. Look at the lawyers who hang about the places.

Aye, pretty nasty, but it wouldn't be the news if it worth the hype, the same happens here.

I wouldn't say the whole system is dirt pit based on some hospitals, just like I wouldn't say all US hospitals are run by drunk and incompetent doctors based on the news last summer based on the big boston hospital...

And nurses uniforms need to make a come back, much nicer to look at than a set of minging scrubs

I'm confident that doctors and nurses have more than one set of scrubs in their possession.
