Question about health insurance for parents

My parents just came to USA as permanent residents. What options do we have
for their health insurance? I understand Medicare is not an option. We are
looking into Medicaid options with state of Wisconsin but possibly they will
not be eligible for that either. What are other programs that can be used to
subsidize the high cost of health insurance?
Any responses will be appreciated.
Thanks

It is quite different here - the government does not automatically subsidize insurance. They will probably just have to buy private insurance. If they have some pre-existing condition, and have terrible trouble getting insurance, or it is more expensive than the average person would pay, there perhaps might be a state-run program they are eligible for. I do not know what Wisconsin has.
Oh - just thinking, I do not know their ages. If they are over 65, they maybe be able to PURCHASE Medicare, even though they are not entitled to it for free.

To be able to purchase Medicare, they would have to be resident here as LPR for 5 years. So if they are over 65, that option is out.

Here is the Wisconsin insurance pool information - if there is a pre-existing condition or have problems getting regular insurance.
http://www.hirsp.org/about/outline_eligibility.shtml
But these state insurance pools are not necessarily less expensive; they often are more expensive.
If you are low income and hoping the state will pay a part/all of the premiums there is the I-864 Affadavit of Support that will have to be considered.

Outside of any State schemes which vary considerably, I have no idea about WI, the two most common areas are:
Through their employment.
Through their family - you in this case.
You do not mention their age, I often wonder how people past retirement age can contemplate moving to the US, very wealthy excluded.

Not that it really matters for WI, seems a very limited scheme, you would have to go some to be eligible.
PS Double posted, there is another thread running.

Sponsors only become responsible if the immigrants take recourse to public funds.

Phone round the various health insurance companies.

Isn't it a little rude for non-USA citizens to come to the USA then
expect the people of the USA to pay for their health insurance?
