Default Pizza is the new Vegetable!

http://www.thejournal.ie/us-congress...82033-Nov2011/

PIZZA CAN BE classed as a vegetable – at least according to a decision made by the US Congress. Who knew?

American lawmakers have ruled that the amount of tomato paste in pizza sauce means that pizzas can be counted as a vegetable.

The bizarre move, which was decided in a vote on the annual spending bill for the Department of Agriculture, happened for purely political reasons....
The potato and salt people were also involved in heavy lobbying to get these new rule changes...seriously, thought this was The Onion when I saw it

Sounds the same as the ketchup as a vegetable thing from the 80s

I am surprised it has taken this long to be recognized......doesn't everybody know that pizza is a nutritionally balanced meal? carbs from the crust, protein from the cheese and a five a day from the pizza sauce. Any toppings just add to the 'healthfulness'.........

Am I the only one who doesn't mind pizza being a vegetable? Seriously, what's the big deal?

It provides the RDA of both vegetables and fruit

especially if followed by a bag of jellybeans.

Tomorrow I shall be making a balsamic-roasted sprout pizza with smoked mozzarella and anchovies if anyone fancies coming round.

Not that I'll let you in, of course, because I'll be eating the whole bastard myself.

Tell me, are the anchovies on there to take away the taste of the sprouts?

So, just how much preservatives and high fructose corn syrup does this vegetable have?
Before reading the link's article I thought to myself that there's got to be a close tie to school meals because of this 'definition'; sure enough ...

"...The crucial bill had oversight over subsidised school meals, and the department was seeking to restrict pizza, chips and starchy vegetables from the menu for school children in a bid to combat child obesity.

MSNBC reports that politicians had been lobbied heavily by the frozen food industry who didn’t want to see a major revenue stream cut off given how often pizza is found on the menus of school canteens in the US..."

Good to see the political system works... I suppose icecream shall be recognized as true dairy and served along side orange juice...
