Like other posters, I have a pizza stone I can put in my oven and buy the ready-made fresh dough at the local market, add shredded mozzarella and whatever else I fancy -- usually fresh Roma tomatoes, red/green pepper, onions. If I have any leftover pesto, I use a little of that rather than a red sauce.

For pizza that isn't - try this....

It's Trader Joe's so-called "Mexican" take on conventional crust, using masa (corn) which gives it a distinctive taste.
I quite like it - but be warned - like most prepared food - it's salty (quite!):

No, the problem is, too much of it and it slides off the pizza, taking all the toppings with it and you end up with a trench of cheese/topping at one end.

It's not? Like I say, I'm not exactly a huge fan - every couple of weeks maybe. I just tried to Google some ingredients of UK supermarket pizzas and didn't really come up with anything conclusive either way (vague mentions of "cheese" without specifics). So what is the grated stuff you see before it's cooked?
But whenever I've ordered from Asda or whatever, it's always grated cheese with the option of regular or extra mozzarella, which seem to come in round slices unlike the regular cheese which is grated. IMLX anyway.

Costco here have 'fresh' pizzas you take home to bake.
I prefer home made pizza, but Mrs TB and I have neither the time nor inclination to make the crust, and we 'cheat' just as much with the sauce.
She likes a tomato base, I prefer a white garlic alfredo sauce as a base. Mrs TB buys ready made crusts, and we doll them up to our liking. She prefers hers very thin and crispy, I like mine on a thicker base - so we position them in the oven accordingly.

Out local pizza joint will happily sell us just the pizza dough. I have to make my own marinara pizza, my favourite at our local Italian restaurant when we were in the UK. None of the pizza stores here have tuna or shrimp as toppings. I need to get the tuna, popcorn shrimp and anchovies and make it myself.

Out local pizza joint will happily sell us just the pizza dough. I have to make my own marinara pizza, my favourite at our local Italian restaurant when we were in the UK. None of the pizza stores here have tuna or shrimp as toppings. I need to get the tuna, popcorn shrimp and anchovies and make it myself.

One problem with store-bought dough and sauces is the sheer amount of salt in them. On the odd occasion I've ordered a take-away pizza I've woken up several times during the night to drink water.

The grated cheese might well be parm or romano cheese.
Found a great place Saturday in our neighborhood for pizza. Crust was like a very very thin wafer or matzo. Sauce was not spread around the crust but the cheese was and the sauce was dropped here and there on the pizza and it was all cooked to a crispy crunchy state. Just lovely.
We have the option in our pizza palors to add sausage, meatballs, pepperoni, anchovies, red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms, lettuce, broccoli, chicken, extra cheese. And they will also make California pizza with ham and pineapple even make a lasagna pizza.
We very very seldom order from a chain or buy frozen. Too easy to just pick up a phone and have it made to order.

I had visions of layers of sheet pasta, cheese, ground beef, and sauce on top of a pizza. Fortunately it would appear that is not the case.
I guess the only way to answer my own question is to make three pizzas, one with mozarella as the cheese only, one with moz and US cheddar, and one with moz and UK-style cheddar. Won't be for a while as the parents are coming on Thursday for a week .
