Re: payrises and bonuses

Got to get aggressive! I never count on or expect bonuses so when one comes along it's a nice little extra. If one didn't come along I would be annoyed for a few minutes but then I'd forget about it. A pay rise is different. Since I do post with my real name I have to be careful here but the last 2 reviews I have been given a % as well as an equity adjustment. The first I had to argue for a little during the review, the one I just got was done and approved by HR before my review. I suspect partly because my boss knew I wouldn't accept the %. On top of that, when I started here I requested a pay review after 90 days as part of me taking the job. It didn't happen exactly after 90 days but soon after and I got a nice equity adjustment there. If you have reasons why you should get a raise and you put them forward firmly you may get some joy. I know that no pay raise for me would mean as soon as I was out of the door I'd be looking for a new job.

What is an incentive pool?

If you do a good job you get to go swimming? I've heard pools cost a lot to maintain, maybe that's where half of their raise goes.

Hubby was looking forward to a payrise but wasnt expecting a bonus as he has only been here 6 months - in fact the company isnt giving payrises to anyone but he did get a nice bonus! wondered if this "bad economy" thing was countrywide in terms of pay?

did that make sense?

I'm not on staff - a temp.
Funny you should ask, cuz I figured out last week that between late '06 and now, I've finagled 12% in pay increases.

Not too bad for expendable labour.

I got an 8% raise this year, and 3% last year, and now my salary is back where it was at the end of 2005 :)

I willingly took a pay cut in 2006 to join my current company, which is a startup, in return for significant equity (yes, I know the risks ...)

I usually get 3-4% per year but very rarely get a bonus, three times that I can remember in 15yrs with the Co and only once was it cash. The other two times it was hockey tickets and then a pair of mittens.

Well, January will either be unemployed and being lazy, unemployed and looking for work or still here at Tenko.

Which, in the grand scheme of things is all that anyone can say about their "permanent " job.

*whistles thru the graveyard*

That is true-my colleague here had told me a week ago that her sister had lost her job, then the end of last week, her sister's boyfriend, whom she lives with had lost his!

Also got an email from a client to inform me not to use the email address I had for her, since she was being laid off.

These are all people in their 40s!!!
