Passage through Mexico: the global migration to the US
https://www.theguardian.com/global-d...us-exit-permit
The sun has barely risen and already hundreds of migrants are gathered outside the vast white and green immigration detention centre, hoping to get through its gates.
Most have travelled thousands of miles on foot, by boat and bus from South America, but few here speak Spanish. In front of the locked gates near Mexico’s southern border, it’s an eclectic mix of French, English, Creole, Urdu, Lingala and Somali.
This eclectic crowd is part of a huge surge in African and Asian migrants traversing the Americas in hope of a better life in the US. The circuitous passage means paying thousands of dollars to coyotes – or people smugglers – to cross 10 countries, where overcrowded fishing boats, mosquito-infested jungles, armed bandits and immigration agents await.
I am not sure the Guardian meant to, but this is a fascinating article on events happening now and to come.

How do I know this well after the long weekend and returning to my office yesterday there were 17 of these people waiting to be processed.
The vast majority are flying into Sao Paulo Brazil on genuine passports and travel documents.

This little British colony of Cayman plays a small part in the migration. Cuban boat-people transit our waters regularly. If they set foot here they are jailed and sent back to Cuba. Most of them know that, so as long as their cardboard boats don't actually sink within sight of land, they hang on and head in the general direction of Honduras, where they join the underground railroad. How many of them make it, our authorities (the UK government and their agents) neither know nor care.
