While I did get citizenship 6 years ago it did take me 20 years. I waited til my last 10 year green card was close to expiring.

13 years and no, maybe sometime in the next decade, depends on how the immigration politics goes.

It took me five years to apply, and was prompted to do so anticipating the arrival of little Miss P and by the coming presidential election. I would have missed the presidential election in 2004 unless they had processed my application and scheduled an oath ceremony within two weeks of the third anniversary of my arrival. My oath ceremony took place when little Miss P was a few months old, and I was registered to vote in time for the primaries the following year.

I went for citizenship rather than renewing the 10 year green card. Seemed like a financial no brainer. So it was about 9 years in. 5 years ago. In a month, I will have been here 15 years. How time flies!

It took me 11 years to apply as I'd have had to drive to Memphis for an interview which is a 4 hour drive for me, plus green card was still valid so didn't see the point in spending money I didn't need to. Luckily my laziness paid off and they opened a field office in Nashville which is much closer not to mention the online application system being less hassle than paper filing. With any luck I'll be done with it in the next couple of months, just waiting on my Oath date.

I applied as soon as I could, at three years.

5 years (minus 90 days) for me. Became a citizen a couple of weeks ago. I didn't want to wait any longer with the current political climate.

I’m 6 years in and haven’t gone for citizenship. I’ll probably do it down the line but wait until I’m near the green card running out. Then again, I may not bother and just get another 10 year green card. We’ll see.

Just a minor nit-pick, but it's time in the US as a Permanent Resident that counts, not time in the US in general.

There are people who will be in the US for years waiting for the Green Cards, and some of them will never become eligible for naturalization no matter how long they live here. Us Brits are very lucky to be charged as "Rest of World" when it comes to immigrant visas.

I should be able to start the naturalization clock in a year or so, and I know I'll be filing as soon as I'm eligible
