OT - SSN# Received
Just thought I'd share this for what it's worth.
FYI: Wife is waiting for AOS - applied in nov '03.
We applied for a SSN for her in january '04 which was rejected by BCIS
because and I quote "her paperwork had expired" - not sure exactly
what that meant.
We think they rejected it because her AP that she got in dec '03 and
used in jan '04 was incorrectly stamped "valid till 28 jan 04" - even
though her I-94 was valid & there's no reason why the AP date effects
her status.
So, after getting the AP corrected (had to go to the airport after our
attorney got them to admit that they'd made a mistake) she re-applied
for a SSN and lo & behold she received one in the mail 2 days ago!
She's not eligible to work but that's because we chose not to file an
EAD.

Re: OT - SSN# Received
Since the subject was so apt to our situation I just had to post...my husband recieved his SSN two days ago!!!!! It took over 7 weeks (he entered on a K-1) but he has it now!!!!! I wanted to post but didn't want to just randomly post about a pretty normal (although long) wait and arrival of his Social Security Card. I was just so excited...he wasn't even home when I picked up the mail...I was ready to burst with excitement so I called my mom who's on vacation. Such simple victories bring so much joy in this process. I don't know what I'll do when we receive the letter for him to pick up his EAD card!!!!!
Just had to share.

Well you don't apply for an SSN with CIS, so if you did, that was probably
the reason it was rejected.

We didn't - all (at least I assume all non-US citizen) SSN
applications are sent to BCIS for verification.

Yes the status of all alien applicants is verified either through the SAVE system or by the SSA
office sending a Form G-845 for manual verification. So you are saying the G-845 came back not
work authorized?

We never saw the G-845 form so I'm not sure that I can answer that
question - all I can say is that her SSN card is marked "Not Eligible
to work without INS(sic) Authorization".
And that doesn't surprise us because I think one of the questions on
the SSN app. form asks if the applicant is eligible to work, and since
we have not applied for an EAD, we marked it as a no.

She has a work authorized SSN and card if that's what is printed on the card. That just keeps her
from using it as a work authorization document for the Form I-9 when applying for a job.
