OT -- Karma, Lawyers -- John & Yoko
Hi:
Thought people might be interested in an article about a famous immigration case. This is inspired by Matt Udall's usenet response to Jen about the name of his first band. I also wrote a motion to recuse an immigration judge yesterday citing the way Yoko Ono actually got her green card back.
But enjoy the following:

Matt Udall was in a band? Not just one band, more than one band!? Am I going to have to search outside of BE to find that post? I can't wait to read it.
The name of my first band was the Voo Doo Cats. I can't believe I was so lame in college.

He responded via usenet -- it should be in the string you started on O/T: What the heck IS this karma all about?.
He also apologized in response to your posting on your name. I forget what string that was in. Posted via usenet.
They should be there.

I went and read it on Google and hated the format. I'm never going back there.
Matt's just going to have to wait until he's back here to talk rock 'n roll with me.

I agree on the Google format. I don't like it.
What's preventing you from talking to him via British Expats? As per the moderators and the administrator, his posts via Usenet are welcome. You should be able to read them via expats and reply accordingly. No need to go to Google, I would think.

I'm still in a band and will probably be in one until the day I drop.
Been doing it all of my life and it's just part of who I am. Besides,
everybody needs a fun hobby or two for times when they are not working
their regular job. Makes life interesting. Next gig is tomorrow night.

>That's correct. Matt's posts show up on BE in the normal BE format, and
any answers made on BE to Matt's posts will show up to him on the
google
format. Jen doesn't have to use google to post a message to Matt.

Are you sure? I know some I've posted via the google interface are not
showing up on BE, and I've started a couple of threads where I would
assume someone would have replied, but those replies are not showing up
on the google interface. Weird.
I hear some of my threads are getting locked. I can understand that for
one (in particular that I posted), but not for the rest.
Oh well.

At a technical level (and without taking sides......) the only way they can
"lock" a usenet group is to filter out that thread. But its not not a
precise science and they may have added heuristics based on the posting
subject and your name in order to filter.
So while BE moderators state you are free to post to alt.visa.marriage-based
(albeit not via thier portal) they have added some filtering to shutdown 1
thread but that had side effects. Timing also makes it look like thats the
case.
If you are willing to continue on BE after they un-ban you I'm sure they'll
remove all filters (along with ALL-THE-DRAMA) and everybody can live happily
ever after.

I've been seeing your posts show up on BE. There are a couple of them out there which no one has responded to. The one where you replied to Jen was locked, but the other ones were not.
I first ran across this forum via google. The formatting is hard to read, and posts take forever to show up, and they were out of order date and time-wise sometimes. Not highly reliable.
