OK maybe a daft question but.........
can anyone tell me what this means please?
Someone left a message on my answering machine saying (I think) hit the pound sign to hear the message.
Also, on my Blackberry, it says I have to hit the (again I think) hit the pound sign to hear my voicemail.
My question is, what is the pound sign?
I know I am probably an idiot of the highest degree and it is obvious but not to me!
Thanks!

Still don't know how to work the Blackberry anyway and crashed my car into a lamppost yesterday. I wouldn't have if I had been sitting in the correct side of the car).
But at least I know what a pound sign is.

I've never in my life heard that called a hash sign!
It's called a "pound sign" or maybe a "number sign".

Re: OK maybe a daft question but.........
Isn't it simply 'hash' in Britain and 'pound' in the U.S.? Thought this was just a country thing.

Only other name I've called it by would be 'sharp'..as in the programming language C# (C sharp).
