Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...
I bought a toffee crisp to try today as I have never had one before. Not bad, not bad at all. I liked it. A bit pricey at 2.39 Canadian but it's not an every day kind of candy.
There is a candy store in the resort town I work in, and they have a small selection of British Imported candy as well as coke, not entirely sure what UK coke tastes like, but looked at the can and it was indeed imported along with some canned beans, that was about it British wise.
They also have a small selection of US candy, and the rest was run of the mill generic Canadian candy brands.

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...
When I first came to Canada, I was always trying the new stuff since we have some products that are not sold in the US, but most of it is.
I was slightly confused that smarties in Canada are like M&M's but not as good, but in the US they are some sort of sugary candy in rolls.
I miss lemon heads though, not sold mainstream here, so I always pick up a few boxes when across the border.

It is outrageous what Hershey's has done but they can't STOP us getting our beloved Cadbury's:-) I ordered mine directly from a company in UK which seem to ship to North America only and looking forward to receiving it. Best money I have spent online in a long while:-) they are called British Food is Us and if you google it as one word no spaces you should get it. I got the link emailed to me from my sister back in UK. Cheers Sis!!!!

Looks like you may be OK, it seems that you can import Cadburys for personal consumption not for resale.
There is a company jollygoods has seen it's business go through the roof sending it to the USA.
My shipment may have been flagged as I had cases of 48 Wispas etc and it would have looked like it was for resale.

Oh, good to know. I've also got a UK friend who after hearing the news of the Hershey legal action has vowed to send me chocolate. I told her not to bother but she insists.

I wonder why Nestle doesn't bring it to the US? I don't see why it wouldn't sell there with the right marketing, Nestle is already a known brand, so they would just have to get people to recognize and try the product.

It always surprise me that Mars and Nestles havent brought more British product here, I figured they could leave the formulas alone, give us the real product and charge more if they have too, Galaxy chocolate is so smooth, Maltesers would go great, Walnut whips too.

I found something online, I didn't know, Hershey of course now owns Mounds, York peppermint patty etc.
Mounds was originally owned by Peter Paul Candy, who then bought York Cone company gaining York Peppermint Pattie.
Peter Paul then merged with Cadbury and became the US division. Cadbury then sold it all to Hershey in 1988, and Hershey gained the York Peppermint Pattie.
That is what the internets say anyhow.
We have Malteasers in Canada, no idea if they are the exact same thing though.

We have Bounty in Canada, I had to google as I swore it was in the US, but I was confusing it with Mounds, so could possibly be why Mars dropped it, consumer confusion, they look more or less the same.

I figure that the reason why Nestle doesn't launch Toffee Crisp properly in the US is twofold (1) The name - Americans see toffee as being like Heath or peanut brittle - hard and crunchy, not chewy like the toffee in Toffee Crisp, so it may confuse candy buyers and (2) it's too similar (although much better in my humble opinion) to 100 Grand.
Caramac and Walnut Whip might be worth a test launch for Nestle in the US though, as there's nothing quite like either over here. And bring back Choco'Lite!
