Nursery Rhymes
Okay. this may be odd request but know that I work with children of different ages and disabilities. One of my kiddos is blind but can hear but mentally only like 2 years old (but is 15). He loves songs! He seems to enjoy some English songs that I remember like "my old man's a dustbin man" etc. I think it's cos' I enjoy them more than American nursery rhymes. Can anyone think of nursery rhymes or songs that are British specifically? I know all the baa baa black sheep, jack and jill etc. I'm looking for other ones that may have forgotten. I like the one about a "horse and carriage" but can't remember beginning. My kiddos will appreciate it. Thank you

Re: Nursery Rhymes
Very much looking forward to this thread because, for a long time, I have wondered about British nursery rhymes myself. I simply can't remember many of them. I do remember some of "Baa Baa Blacksheep" and "How Much is that Doggie in the Window", though

First one that popped into my head was Oranges and Lemons, then there is London Bridge is Falling Down. Not trying to be macabre.

What about Teddy Bear's Picnic? It's an Irish/American joint effort but something my Mam used to sing to me when I was little Curleytops in England.

Re: Nursery Rhymes
Not all of these are songs but they may jog your memory - my little granddaughter is now 2 years old so I've told her many of the nursery rhymes I remember as a child - do let me know if you need the words to these rhymes:
Three Blind Mice (if you deem it suitable, he may not like it...)
Little Jack Horner
Dr. Foster (Went to Gloucester In a Shower of Rain....)
Oh! The Grand Old Duke of York
Hickory Dickory Dock
Humpty Dumpty
Little Miss Muppet
Ride A Cock Horse (to Banbury Cross)
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
Jack Sprat (could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean)
Ding Dong Dell, Pussy's In The Well
There Was An Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe
(I think the carriage one is - and it isn't a nursery rhyme -
'Daisy, Daisy, Give Me Your Answer Do
I'm Half Crazy, all for the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But You'll look sweet
Upon a seat
Of a bicycle made for two!

Re: Nursery Rhymes
Not a rhyme, but a very popular song in my household when I was a kid...
"I know an old lady."
(Maybe give her a better ending after the horse )
For the more cynical amongst your brood... Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes are a hoot.
