Not really a bad idea....go in harsh, then suddenly it won't seem quite so bad when they concede the hands free from the ban
Would mean the cops would have to knock talking on the phone while driving too though

Ah... Will this eliminate the poor driving standards...
... Sorry, let me out that in the positive...
Will I see an improvement of driving standards?
And with less tongue in cheek... will we see a drop in accidents & fatalities, or will there be unintended consequences that keep accident rates about the same... Or higher?
And what might these unintended consequences be..?
Oh hang on - SCOTUS will rule it unconstitutional because, although less death etc is a good thing, it's not government's job to interfere here and we'll leave it up to individuals & individual states to figure that one out...

That only allows drinking coffee, eating a burger, reading the newspaper, doing your make up then. The first two are a bit difficult to do while talking on the phone so a ban on cell phone use would be helpful in that respect.

So you don't have a problem doing your make up when using the phone then?

If they banned automatic transmission and synchromesh gears that might solve the problem of multitasking.. nothing like double declutching to concentrate the mind.

It is somewhat ironic that since I posted the link, I have learned that my Mother, along with my 2 Brothers were involved in car accident, on Saturday Evening, on my native Merseyside.
The other driver was on the Cell-Phone (or Mobile) and was also smoking a Cigarette. The driver pulled out in front of my Brother, who could not avoid a collision, resulting in injuries to all three of my family members.
His car, a Citroen Berlingo, was written-off by his Insurance Comany due to a bent chassis and damaged gearbox,
The Bruises are now beginning to show and they are also aching pretty bad. They were treated on scene, by Paramedics and recieved further treatment at hospital, today.

We were coming down the freeway here tonight (I was rear left seat passenger) and I glanced across as we were passing a chevy compact of some sort....4 kids in it all on their phones, and the driver was holding her phone across to show the front seat passenger what was on the screen......
I read somewhere about a device that can block cellphones in cars travelling above a certain speed. Sounds like a cracking idea. Wonder if they can make a movie theater sized version (without the speed limit!)......................

It's already illegal in New York to use a hands free device. I'm all for the ban.
