Newcastle Brown Ale advert
Hi there
Has anyone else seen the Newcastle brown ale advert on tv, I was watching Discovery I think and it was on a couple of times, talks about the brown ale and the brew master - you don't see their face - shes a woman and not that pretty (this is what the advert said not me) and then finishes with a glass and the slogan Newcastle No Bollocks.
I just don't see how the Americans are going to take the slogan as they probably don't know what Bollocks is.

I thought it was totally weird when I saw it.
"Newcastle - no bollocks" is going to make you want to drink it?
Strange non-Geordie accent also.

As a discerning beer drinker of 40 + years and heavily involved with CAMRA in the 70s I find the growth of NBA over here interesting
It has been my beer of choice for the last couple of years over Sam Adams etc.
At a pub in Boston last week they had it on draft and I was surprised to see how many others were drinking it. At parties I see more than a few six packs as well It is the younger crowd who are drinking it as well

With the huge array of fantastic American beers available these days, it really does beggar belief.

Each to his own is I believe the phrase
So what are you beers of choice and we can make fun of those
For what its worth I do support the local micro breweries, Blue Hills brewery in Canton MA is in the next town from where we live. Excellent IPA

On a beer related pet peeve; I am tired of asking "do you have any cask beers", then told yes, and given a list, and then get served keg.
Cask seems to just mean 'not in a bottle'.

In many places I've been into they simply don't understand what 'cask' means. Even if they do actually serve cask beer. And if you manage to establish that they do have some then it's 50/50 whether the barkeep understands how to operate a beer engine properly. Many's the time I've had what appears to be a (far from) pint of brown milkshake plonked down in front of me.

Newkie Brown does seem to have undergone an amazing revival, wasn't it rather looked down upon in the UK? I quite like it though.
