New Comcast data cap
Not that this should affect me, but it may do in 5 years time looking at past data usage trends. I'll also have to be careful what I download for work now.
We’re writing to let you know that we will be activating a new XFINITY Internet Data Usage Plan in your area. Effective November 1, 2016, your XFINITY Internet service will include one terabyte (that’s 1,024 GB) of data usage per month. With a terabyte of data you can stream between 600 and 700 hours of HD video, play more than 12,000 hours of online games, or download 60,000 high-res photos in a month.

You guys are lucky in America, in the UK the data caps range from 10gb - 100gb depending on cost.
I laughed at the limits when I started the new xfinity service.
Nothing is unlimited XD

Pretty sure that cap aggregates both download AND upload. Worth bearing in mind if you use something like Crashplan.

You're not paying $60 plus taxes for basic Internet in the uk. That's with my $10 discount for having tv aswell.

No, I'm paying that for 70mb + digital economy and don't care tbh

Unlimited is still available, you'll have to pay an extra $50 a month to get it though.
It is ironic that in areas with fast internet they are adding data caps. I have unlimited internet at home and at work. Sounds great, but 15Mbps is the fastest they offer on the boonies...
My home provider uses fixed access points to deliver internet via long range (up to 18 miles) directional WiFi. They are expanding their offering to include a 50Mbps option, at $150 per month ! 15Mbps costs us $50 a month.

Re: New Comcast data cap
To get that data cap at our provider here in Canada, it's a smooth $135/month although they are doing a promo where first 2 years is $80.
We have basic internet and get 65gb month, 5Mbps download speed, and 512kbps upload speed.
A little over $60 with the taxes.
Internet officially costs more then basic cable now.
We average 10gb of data per month, last month we used 7gb.

I just moved from the UK where I really liked my BT Infinity Unlimited 2 (80Mbps downstream/20 upstream) package at 25 pounds/month - quite unimpressed with how expensive fast internet access is over in the US in comparison.

Re: New Comcast data cap
I just moved from Ohio (Armstrong cable) to Montana (Charter). Armstrong had a cap of 200GB and I rarely got close to that, despite working at home with a VPN, downloading all manner of stuff, and medium netflix / iPlayer use. I don't know what you'd have to be doing to get close to 1TB a month. Charter [currently] doesn't have a data cap.
They must be still on DOCSIS 2 infrastructure here because they only offer 60Mbit as standard, and if you want their 100Mbit service, you have to pay a $200 install fee for them to run fiber to your house. If they were on DOCSIS 3 they would be able to offer between 100 and 200Mbit over the coax.

Backing up a new computer to crashplan, a family all using netflix and downloading a few images from msdn would do it. I agree I think 1 tb is more than adequate, last month I used 200gb,my highest had been 300

Re: New Comcast data cap
I'm in Tigard,OR and would like to dump Comcast. So far no other options. Frontier doesn't service our area. With 2 kids, 6 streaming devices, me and the wife working from home, crashplan running and the odd torrent from UK TV Chaos, ahem, we will be getting close to this new limit. Of course it is a knee jerk reaction to the cord cutters and trying to bring people back to cable TV, AKA advertising with some programming randomly thrown in. All I want is a 1Gb google fiber. Nothing else is of interest. Comcast is going the way of the dodo IMHO.

Re: New Comcast data cap
I get Tv and decent internet speed for the same price roughly although when the deal ends i'll cut cable and try AT&T for a year to see what their speeds are like in the area or atleast cut the tv since i would be happy using an aerial and streaming.
