Re: Nettie's Road Trip, May 2010
Next Saturday we are doing Indianapolis to Atlanta (stopping for few days) then heading on to Charlotte NC (stopping for week) then back to Indy. If I don't see anything interesting en route I shall be very disappointed. Pretty sure no matter what happens any photos I take will be no where near as good as yours. Awesome pics. What type camera do you use?

We are in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and I managed (against all the odds) to get some great photos today.
Having been so inspired by this wonderful thread I'm wondering if I should start a new thread for National Parks/Road trips/ Scenic Photos, or just tag them onto this thread.
What do y'all think? Nettie, I don't want to hijack your thread though!
Off to upload the pictures.
Edit: Karma to Nettie again for the Roadside America link, very helpful.

The link should look something like:

but with the | symbols replaced by opening and closing square brackets.

I took some pictures when we were riding along River Road which is on the border of Texas and Mexico. Rio Grande is one side and mountains on the other. The road, in places, is like a roller coaster. The view was amazing but trying to take pictures bumping around on the back of the Harley doesn't make for good pictures when I'm the photographer.

Everybodys Road Trip, May 2010
Ok, first attempt to upload pictures.
We visited Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountain National Park today, it was a glorious day, not too hot about 77f. The Cades cove area is basically a valley surrounded by the mountains, it's very picturesque.
I didn't think we'd see any animals at all, I mean what are the odds? We were not disappointed and the kids were (two boys, five and eight) thrilled to see so many different critters. I don't have a great zoom lens so some of the pictures are a bit far away, I've cropped most of the others.
This is a wild turkey, actually there were two, one under the tree also but I can't see it in the photo.
First glimpse of a female black bear, totally blown away by this encounter. We had stopped to walk on a short track up to one of the old houses on the scenic trail. She was foraging about in the vegetation and tree roots. She was still there when we came back from the little house and we got some more photos of her.
The last picture we were back in our car, I took it out the window. The bear continued to plod along past all the crazy tourists with their cameras and vehicles and carried on across the road. I think she was about 100lbs and maybe would have been between 3-4ft if she stood on her hind legs.
Just minutes later at another location we saw people gathered at the roadside watching a cub. We could see it from the car but decided not to get any closer incase the mamma bear was nearby.
More tommorow.....
