Default Modern technology

My son is at an airport in Turkey and his flight home is late. Holiday reps don't know what the delay is.

I'm on the west coast USA tracking the inbound flight from Manchester and telling my son by text where it is and when it will arrive. Don't you just love all this modern technology.

I'm with you on that one... It's bloody brilliant. I'm constantly amazed by what I can do now, compared with when I was using DOS 6 to access t'internet via Demon in the UK. (and that was after a couple of years with Compuserve)..... Not in the mucky forums of course!

ive flown out of Turkey many many times as we had a holiday home there at one point. Their airports (and ive been in several) are all quite poor and are extrememly lacking in any information about what is happening - even when the flights are all going off ok. I love turkey and its people but they are still very unfamiliar at times with modern technology lol!

Sounds like America! I once had a connecting flight cancelled and it was on the internet tracker where the people picking me up saw it 2 hours before they told me at the airport. That was Philadelphia though where good things never hppen. :-O

i was just saying to the other half, " How did we used to book flights or rental cars ? " i honestly don't recall, travel agents , phones and the newspaper I suppose.

What is amazing is how quickly we change and adapt.

I still don't have a cellphone though, and I miss real film in the camera.

Last week, we went out to a toystore with my daughter as she wanted to spend some of her allowance. She wanted to get an expensive Breyer horse model. I launched the Google Shopper app on my Evo 4G, scanned the barcode and instantly discovered that Amazon had the horse for ~30% less than the store. My daughter agreed to get it from Amazon so I ordered it right there on my phone with one click. This whole process took less than a minute and couldn't have been more simple. Because we are Amazon Prime members it came in two days with free shipping (and no sales tax). So, not only did my daughter save some money, she also learned a lesson about delaying gratification (pretty good for a 9 year old). Technology rules.

Yes I'm almost 62 and I was introduced to technology a couple of years ago by my son who is 32 and I got so engrossed in all these new gadgets that he now comes to me for advice! If I'd had this technology when I was a lad I'd probably be a scientist now!

Happy days!

Mike

Don't have a radio but do have two LCD tellies ;-)

Cell is only used for emergencies, and it is just that a phone without internet or text msg.
