Guess what, we atheists don't catch on fire when we pronounce the name of the Lord. Some of us even enjoy singing Christmas carols.

It's the formal name of the holiday, after all, isn't it? Not calling it Christmas, when you mean Christmas, is a bit like asking someone to pass the salt and then getting upset because you really wanted the gravy. Words mean things.

When I mean "happy [Hanukkah, Christmas, Solstice, St. Sylvester's Day, etc]", I say "Happy Holidays". When I mean "happy [Christmas]", I say "Merry Christmas". This is just not rocket surgery

It used to be a Christian holiday, but just as the 4th century Church co-opted various pagan holidays celebrating the winter solstice, so has modern-day business co-opted the December holiday to re-create a secular holiday celebrating shopping.

It's 'back to the future', so to speak and the pagans have it once again.

Regards, JEff

Yer know what....I didn't say you did. I just wonder why people get all bent out of shape about something so simple...

So what do they do if you let it slip - dollar in the swear box, or clear your desk and out the door....?

So we need to say Happy Santa Day

Of course now the arguement will start about Santa Claus versus Father Christmas

Father S. Christmas.

Jeff has already said it, but the Christian war on Yule failed, and now its pay back time.

I am less cynical than Jeff, I think of it as a secular family centred holiday, shopping optional.

What a miserable bunch, why would you, having no religion, wish someone who might be religious, a happy, or merry religious holiday in a religion that might not apply to them. They are probably the same people who claim that they are never the foreigners, where ever they are.
