Lower your Vonage Phone Costs

Lower your Vonage Phone Costs
Folks, if you are a Vonage un-limited user ($24.99/month), call vonage and say you want to cancel their service because other users are getting un-limited for $19.99, they will then reduce your vonage service to $19.99 per month for a whole year and give you one months free.
Some have reported getting them down to $14.99 (I managed to get mine down to $19.99 plus one month free), note there is a $9.99 activaion charge)
Call them on 1-866-243-4357 (and then say cancel service when it asks for a voice command)

They also have a $4.99 plan if you want a really basic service. You have to ask.

Yes, no change in features. Basically, a reduction from $24.99 down to $19.99 or $14.99 if you hustle them a bit (there's a $9.99 set up charge, but you also get 1 months free as well, so the setup charge is essentially free)

How is the reception on Vonage? Have you had any problems with them at all?

Also, we have occasional internet connection outages. Thankfully, very few but - my g/f spends much of her time on the phone for business and can't afford to be without it, so we keep one landline for that (and other reasons). I never advise anyone to give up a landline in favor of a voip service; voip relies on a lot of things working (internet service provider, power, local network, vonage adapter, etc). In an emergency, a landline (with an old fashioned non-powered phone) is much more likely to work.

Thanks. I've had the same landline for over 20 years and just can't see myself giving it up. It seems like internet phones have a lot of problems !

But I have the cell phone for backup - I'd don't think I'd trust VOIP without some form of backup.

I have had several problems with cable so I'll probably give Vonage a miss. They recently had to rewire my apartment and the rooftop as well from weather damage. Ithin k I'll just use phone cards! Happy Holidays!

Can I use Vonage to call UK cell phones? My phone company charges through the roof for these calls, and it's the only way I can get to talk to my daughters. I'd love to find a cheaper way. Last month the charges were $130, and we really hadn't talked that often or for very long.

Our calls are crystal clear 99% of the time and no problems with connections...however we do have a cell as a back up

I use a phone card (there are hundreds of suitable ones, I happen to use 'global speed dial', from http://www.phonecardsonsale.com/). They also implement different rates to cell phones; 35 cents vs 4.3 cents for landline calls. I use the phone card on both my land-line and my cell (so I'm not using long-distance on my land-line or cell). I buy $50-worth of time in advance, and it lasts me MONTHS - though I mainly call land-lines. They support 'PIN-less' dialing, which means, they recognize the caller ID of the phone you are calling FROM and don't require you to enter a lengthy PIN - so you just (speed-)dial their access number, then enter the number you want to call - and everything can be pre-programmed in your address book.
So - get rid of long distance service on your landline (which should drop your monthly bill to about $15) and use a calling card. Vonage is a winner if you make a lot of US-long distance calls.
