Default Last Will and testament....

Have any of you made out new wills when you moved over to the States even though you have one back home.

I was talking to someone the other day who said that I should make one out here in Texas just in case, you never know, even though we dont know how long we will be here. They said that if I didnt make one out then my family back in the UK could lose out on everything we have invested here, anyone know????

If you have kids you are supposed to have one in the country you are living in since the courts are not bound to observe a will made overseas. Not sure about the financial aspects but for the very small sum it costs if you have money to leave to others then you might as well.

Absolutley. My Dad was an immigrant (from Austria) to the UK, when he died his UK assets were fine, but because he didn't have a will in Austria, his assets there were subject to the law there and could be divvied up according to that law, not as he wanted.
