Lake Champlain Border Crossing This Weekend
#1
Hubby and I traveled to Kanhawake this weekend (just outside of Montreal) for his sister's 50th wedding anniversary. The border crossing both on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon were heated affairs. Long and slow to say the least. Tempers on Sunday were at a fever pitch and we witnessed three verbal fests between car occupants and other drivers who were cutting in and out of lanes vying for lead spaces and a NYS military plated prick who wanted to jump infront of everyone and a motorcycle couple with Quebec plates who rode between lanes and cut in front of everyone three cars from the custom's booth.
Interesting to note that very prominently displayed at the entry to the booth is a sign that tells you that you are being photographed and your conversation recorded. We cross into Canada frequently but this is the first time I noted the sign as the first paragraph of a list of directives while you wait your turn and your car is being digitally recorded.
All booths were two person manned this weekend as well which is highly unusual. Our passports were not scanned which was unusual as well but we were questioned as to where we lived, how long we were in Canada, where we went while visiting, etc.
Going into Canada on Saturday our wait was only 1/2 hour while the lineup for those entering the US was clocked at a 3 mile backup and that was with all US booths open (7 of them).

Very minor incident here on way home today, but a bit odd. We took 17 back from FL as opposed to 95, no traffic at all, but all of a sudden up in the road, in the middle of nowhere were 4 staties and A DNR (??) vehicle parked with a team of them checking licenses against license plates. Odd. Didn't care about proof of insurance or anthing, just checking.
